Overview
MoodTrace is a local-first mood tracking app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. This means the app is designed to keep your data on your device unless you choose to export or share it.
MoodTrace does not require an account, does not run its own backend for your mood data, and does not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Information MoodTrace Stores
MoodTrace may store the following information locally on your device:
- Mood entries you create
- The date and time of each entry
- Optional notes you add to an entry
- Optional tags you add to an entry
- Optional profile information such as your display name
- Reminder settings, including whether daily reminders are enabled and the time you choose
- Limited local app preferences, such as whether certain paywall prompts have already been shown
This information is stored in local app storage on your device.
Information MoodTrace Does Not Collect
MoodTrace does not require you to create an account or provide:
- Email address
- Phone number
- Contacts
- Precise location
- Photos
- Microphone recordings
- Camera data
MoodTrace also does not sell your personal information.
How Your Information Is Used
MoodTrace uses your information only to provide app features, including:
- Saving and displaying your mood history
- Showing trends and insights based on your saved entries
- Personalizing simple in-app text, such as your display name
- Scheduling daily reminder notifications if you enable them
- Preparing a CSV export if you choose to export your data
- Unlocking Pro features if Apple or Google confirms an active entitlement
Notifications
MoodTrace uses your device's local notification system for optional reminders.
- Notification permission is requested only if you turn on reminders
- You can turn reminders off at any time in the app or in your device settings
- Reminder scheduling information stays on your device
CSV Exports
If you use the export feature, MoodTrace creates a CSV file containing your mood data so you can share or save it.
- Export happens only when you choose it
- The export file is created temporarily on your device before sharing
- Once you share the file to another app, service, or storage location, that destination handles the file under its own privacy practices
Purchases and Billing
MoodTrace offers an optional Pro upgrade through Apple's in-app purchase system on iOS and the Google Play billing system on Android.
- Purchases are processed by Apple or Google, not by MoodTrace
- MoodTrace checks purchase entitlement status through StoreKit or Google Play Billing to unlock Pro features
- MoodTrace does not receive your full payment card information
Apple and Google may process transaction-related data according to their own policies. You can review their privacy information through Apple and Google.
Data Sharing
MoodTrace does not share your mood entries, notes, tags, or settings with a company-operated backend because the app does not use one for this data.
Your data may leave the app only in these situations:
- You choose to export or share a CSV file
- Apple or Google processes purchase or restore-purchase activity through the App Store, StoreKit, or Google Play Billing
- iOS or Android processes local notification permissions and delivery
Data Retention and Deletion
Your mood data remains on your device until you delete it.
You can remove data by:
- Deleting individual entries inside the app
- Using the in-app option to delete all data stored by the app
- Removing the app from your device
Temporary export files are intended to be cleaned up by the app after sharing or dismissal, although copies you save elsewhere are controlled by the destination you choose.
Security
MoodTrace relies on device platform protections and local app storage. No software can guarantee absolute security, but MoodTrace is designed to minimize data exposure by keeping your mood data on device unless you intentionally export it.
Children's Privacy
MoodTrace is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children through an account or online service because the app does not provide those features.
If a parent or guardian believes information has been entered into the app and wants it removed, they can delete the data directly on the device using the app's deletion controls or by removing the app.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. If it changes, the updated version will be published with a new "Last updated" date.
